Over the past 25 years Trosch has developed a cult following for his wildly energetic and curiously sensitive oil paintings. He typically paints society matrons in cluttered art-filled homes, galleries, and pool parties. Intuitively rendered and lavishly painted, his eccentric tableaus suggest multiple levels of reading. In this current body of work, Trosch pairs his wealthy women alongside the male presence of the bare–chested artist. High society and bohemia come together in brilliant passages of painterly excess. Thomas Trosch (b.1955) has had solo exhibitions at Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, Jose Freire Fine Art, New York, Black Dragon Society, Los Angeles, and Richard Telles, Los Angeles (two-person). His group shows include included in Jeffrey Deitch’s “Florine Stettheimer Collapsed Time Salon” at the Armory Show and “NewNow: Recent Acquisitions” at the Nerman Museum, Overland Park.
